The Brunel Hotel is unfortunately, not suitable for wheelchair users due to the old and narrow nature of the Grade II listed building.
Access to the Main Reception area from the front of the hotel is up three steps, with no ramp section available. The remainder of the entrance is level through a pair of “push and pull” glass doors. The doorbell is not available at the hotel entrance. Although not heavy doors, it is recognised that wheelchair guests may not be able to negotiate the opening of the doors without assistance from the receptionist.
Once inside the Hotel, reception, lobby, and public toilet are on one level, with slightly narrow doors throughout. Our lift is located in the lobby and is operational between the lower ground floor up to level 3. From level 3, guests are required to walk up a short flight of stairs in order to reach level 4.
Seating is available in the lobby for guests to rest whilst checking-in at Reception.
The breakfast room is located in the Lower Ground Floor, which you can access through a set of several narrow steps, again not suitable for wheelchair users. Unfortunately, there is no lift available to take guests to the basement area. Breakfast times are Mon-Sat 7-10am and Sun 8-11 am.
Table service during breakfast time is mainly provided for hot beverages and cooked items (toast, poached/fried eggs, etc.).
Please let us know of any allergies or food limitations.
We are not able to serve breakfast in your room due to limited space in our hotel rooms. Breakfast staff will do their best to accommodate you in the breakfast room where possible. Regrettably, we do not supply a Braille service.
Public Toilets are located on the ground floor next to the reception desk. There is one step to access the toilet and the door opens outwards. The toilet area is not suitable for wheelchair users.
Floor indicator buttons within the lifts are at the standard level.
Access to all rooms on all floors is, in certain areas, restricted, with small steps, changes of levels and, in all cases, narrow corridor-turning areas, which wheelchair users would find impossible to navigate.
Our Reception team will be happy to correctly allocate rooms, as soon as they are made aware of guest requirements. We would ask that special requests are made at the enquiry stage and they are subject to availability.
Being a traditional and narrow building, we have a large number of differing room types, with their own features, which are known by our Housekeeping staff and Reception. This includes Fire Doors and structural features that may prove to be a barrier to certain guests, and some internal room layouts will not be suitable for certain disabilities.
We are always happy to talk with guests and discuss specific room requirements, as we are fully aware that there are many variations of needs. It is fair to say that we do not have any real experience of guests with wheelchairs/disabilities and our hotel entrance and breakfast room are just some of the barriers that exclude them.
Receptionist on duty holds details on guests with hearing difficulties, sight difficulties, and movement restrictions, in order that they may provide assistance in the event of an emergency. Guests are encouraged to call the Reception for assistance at any time.
